After giving my mailing address, they sent me a new roller assembly, a new bearing to fix the broken one and also a free fine blade for smaller wires. With this minor issue, I thought it ridiculous to send it back all over again so I contacted CopperMine tools directly through e-mail and got a polite response within 15 minutes. I started to return through Amazon but was disappointed to find that it was "fulfilled" through Amazon and I'd have to return it, wait for a refund and then have to order all over again to get a new one. Upon further inspection, I noticed that one of the roller bearings was stuck (left side on the horizontal plane looking at the machine).

The red "cover" is also made of sheet metal and makes it look more professional than some of the other similar units on here. The frame is made of ~1/8" steel and feels heavy in your hand. I received the machine very quickly (prime is awesome) and set it up.
COPPER WIRE STRIPPING MACHINE HOMEMADE MANUAL
Satnded wire just way easier than by hand which always hurt both hands after doing 10 lbs now it's set it sepearte the two wires and zip em clean in seconds heres my video showing you how fast i do it now with this manual stripper realize this was 1st use now way faster without talking while making video I did 35 lbs in 11 hours time stranded and solid 18 guage up to 12 guage. SO it cut my stripping time in half It took me by hand 40 mins to strip 30 feet of solid core 16 guage using blade in two vice grips and fasten wire at both ends till tight as guaitar string. I have had mines since last year and truthfully must have stripe 3000 lbs of all types no thinner than 18 guage standard appliance wire two strands. Actual stripping time is done in seconds. Thats of course including time to unravel your braided stranded wire as in vacumm cleaner wires that are 15 feet long. Yes it atke time to start your wire in it but once set at that gauge you can strip through 500 feet in 2 hours time. Mines i made semi aoutomatic by making drill mount about 8 " from stripper on two pices of wood so i can reverse it to remove spooled wire. If you set blade to tight it will destroy stranded wire. LOL those of you with negatives especially on stranded wires. It still works flawlessly! I have not tried and Romex yet. I haven't needed to sharpen the blade, or perform any maintenance on it. I have stripped, at the least, ten miles of different gauge wire with this tool. My advice is take your time setting it up and it'll work flawlessly. It's, by far, my best investment yet for my small hobby. So far this tool has made it so much easier to strip stranded wire, which is what I have the most of. After about the first 100 feet I had to make a minor adjustment to keep it slicing properly.

Any deeper and it will cut through the wire strands. You want to set it where it barely cuts through the insulation. After separating the 10 stands of wire I set the machine up to strip the 18ga wire. It sliced through like a hot knife through butter. It was easily 200 feet of cable.Īfter setting up the tool, which does take a little time, I ran the cable through to take off the outer casing. The first piece of wire I was going to strip was a 10-18ga travel cable off an elevator. I'm not trying to strike it rich in the scrap copper business, and this tool was within my budget. So I had to find something that might work. I tried making my own homemade job out of a line flaring tool and a razor. Something had to be better than what I was doing with a knife. It would be nice if the frame was a little beefier and a big improvement would to have the cutter shaft slotted and keyed so that it would stay in line with the product being processed, as it is easy to get it out of line when adjusting it. I ran a piece if 14/3 thru it and it did OK on the sheathing but the sheathing is not smooth and even, but it did well on the conductors. It cut the sheathing on the service entrance cable and the conductor insulation easily.

I did find that on finely stranded wire I needed to strip a couple of inches off the starting end so I could grab it with pliers and pull to get the cut started due to the thick insulation. I was very pleased with how it performed after proper setup. For the smaller stuff I set the side rollers first and bring the bottom roller up to just shy of touching the side rollers and then adjust the cutting blade down to the proper depth or a hair more and fine tune the cut with the bottom roller. Set up for cutting is very important and the directions for setting the rollers are OK for the bigger stuff but I found them to be not the best for the smaller stuff. My biggest problem was aluminum cable like service entrance and this looked like a good tool for it.
